October 10 - took the day off
4:50 PM on Oct. 13, 2008
Even though I live in the United States, I decided to take off work and celebrate the Chinese holiday of 10-10. The date is a momentous occasion in Chinese history.  On October 10, 1911, the underground Chinese nationalist goverment finally overthrew the Qing (Ching) dynasty which meant no more Manchurian rule over China.  In San Francisco, Chinese kids take the day off from school and there is usually a huge parade through Chinatown.  What a glorious occasion.

I think I heard of that, wasn't that the time of various food shortages and loss in wars, as well as a population explosion? That would cause some nasty levels of unrest.

Now that I think about it, I'm thinking that the US might head straight into that if things keep going the way they are.
