DOG THIEVES !
12:33 PM on Jan. 14, 2008
We just adopted a new Golden Retriever to be playmates with our pup River, and while we were gone, I have a feeling someone swooped him out of our backyard. It is fenced in and there is just no way he could have gotten out. We double checked and just can't find a way, so in my mind, some moron came in, grabbed him, and jetted.

Why do people do this ? I hate thieves to begin with, but dog thieves are just the worst. They are basically taking away a family member from someone and not thinking twice about how it may affect children or other family members.

I'm glad you found him safe and well! When they're so small, sometimes they escape in ways Houdini would be proud of. My dog squeezed through a gap at the bottom of our gate that I swear was no more than two inches high by tunneling out a deeper hole under that. Then she slid herself into then up and out to freedom via her newly dug trench. Like you, we thought our fenced in yard was puppy proof. Best of luck with him!

We have this issue in our area all the time. There have been several instances where people steal and then go sale the puppy and I think that is just horrible! My son had one of his puppies stolen several years ago and I remember wanting to find out who done it and make them watch my boy CRY HIS EYES OUT because some jerk stole his companion!

Cirereyes,

Yes, you are right. It's funny people how people will just swoop puppies up if they think they are cute, but they don't realize to many that is like taking their kids from them. Then there are many that don't want to pay all that money for a purebred dog, so they do the shady thing by taking someone else's dog.

River sounds like he's too much to handle, especially now that you have another dog in the house. Some puppies, no matter how well you try to train them, are more trouble than a shipload of tribbles.

He was found, but he took off again. Our other dog, Georgia is great, but we can't leave River unattended for 2 minutes without him taking off. I felt bad after writing this as our pup that was taken was actually given back and taken care of by someone who had found him playing at the local park.

Hey, I heard your puppy was found after all. I was relieved and happy to have heard the good news. How are the two dogs getting along, though?

Most of them are stealing for their basic needs but I don't think that's the only option for it, some are probably kleptomaniacs that just takes anything that they don't even need. I think it’s still best to follow the golden rule.

Yes. Dog nappers are creepy, reprehensible, and definitely undeserving of the word "humans." Whether they stole River to take home to their kids, re-sell, or other, more sinister motives, they had no fracking right to steal him. A pox on them!
