Chicago 2016 Supporters,
On behalf of Chicago 2016, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate President-Elect Barack Obama on his historic presidential victory. A resident of Chicago for nearly two decades, President-Elect Obama has been a longtime Olympic bid supporter. Following the selection of Chicago on June 4 as a Candidate City by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), he appeared at a celebration in Chicago with Mayor Richard M. Daley, other government leaders as well as Olympians and Paralympians. Today, the delegation from Chicago 2016 showed a special video support statement from him at the European Olympic Committees meeting in Istanbul, Turkey.
The election night rally held in Grant Park, the site of several proposed Olympic venues, was a testament to the city’s ability to come together in peace and celebration. As we move forward with our bid and showcase to the world why Chicago should be chosen to host the Games in 2016, we will rely on our people to help us tell the story – a story that could not have been told better on election night.
We thank President-Elect Obama for his continued support of our efforts to bring the Olympic and Paralympic Games to Chicago in 2016 and for being an outstanding advocate for our city.
All the best,Patrick G. Ryan
