Sports in Australia

Living on a rock in the middle of the Pacific, I have always been impressed at all of the different sports in Australia. In the US, we focus on football (gridiron), baseball, and basketball. In Hawaii, we add surfing and volleyball. I am sure that people in Australia play those sports, but they have other sports that seem to be more popular.

There are three sports payed in Australia that I like to watch:

Rugby (They play two different kinds of Rugby)
Cricket
Australian  Rules Football

Rugby has two sets of rules, one called called Rugby union, and the other called  rugby league.

Cricket is another interesting sport that I would like to know more about.

The sport I most enjoy watching from Australia is Australian Rules Football. Also known as the AFL, there is a worldwide following of Aussie Rules, with both spectators and players of various skill sets enjoying the sport. Exciting websites like the AFL's Officail Web Site at http://www.afl.com.au/ talk more about Aussie Rules, both in Australia and internationally. The International teams have their own page on the AFL website. The USA team and league information can be found at the US FOOTY site at http://www.usfooty.com.

Does anyone else here on NetToMe enjoy the sports of Australia?

Aloha,

Shaka

I think most sports in the world (outside the US) are more honest and focus on the thrill of competition. The steroid filled US sports focus on breaking records, not on competition. In the US they pay an American baseball pitcher who is average, the salary of a whole team somewhere else in the world, this is crazy. I can't afford to take my family of 4 to sporting events in Chicago, unless I want to pay $50-$250 per ticket plus food and drink! This is wrong.
